Body Detection in Automobile Production

UHF RFID Read/Write Head Q300

The challenge of just-in-sequence production

Just-in-sequence production in the automotive industry requires information about the current location of individual vehicles at all times. In addition to the components, the car bodies are also equipped with RFID tags. The tags are often mounted in the wheel arches. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which is used directly by the control system to assign production steps and components, is stored on these tags. The metallic environment here leads to reflections that can cause overshoots or reading holes.

Your Benefits

  • Maximum acquisition rate by polarization switching
  • High investment security of the RFID installation without interfering with existing IT systems
  • Minimal installation effort thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE) and integrate I/Os

  • In metallic environments, the Q300's polarization switching ensures maximum detection rates

  • A single ethernet cable is sufficient for electrical installation of the Q300

Cross-system identification with just a single tag

At the first production step in the body construction area, each vehicle is already fitted with a particularly heavy-duty RFID tag such as the TW865-868-Q30L50-MHT-B332, which is suitable for direct mounting on metal. The durable hard tag based on a PCB is fitted on the rear of the car body and accompanies the vehicle from the first production step to the paintshop, to assembly right through to order preparation and shipment. The high-temperature tag features a 56-byte EPC memory for tracking long serial numbers (such as VIN) and an extensive freely usable memory of 256 bytes for chronologically logging the production process and components right through to final assembly.

Standardized data for smart production

The hard tag enables seamless digitalized production and logistics. The data of all systems is logged centrally on the vehicle. Only one identification technology is required and only this requires maintenance. Each system can read information from the chip of the RFID transponder, and can also store new data on it. Standardized vehicle information on the tag thus ensures that vehicle information can be identified across all systems

Maximum tag detection rate

A Q300 RFID UHF reader close to the relevant workstation provides the maximum tag detection rate. Its polarization switch ensures that tags can be deteected on several polarization planes provides reliable tag detection in any position. Customers are spared the need for complex algorithms in the middleware or mechanical measures to ensure the detection rate.

Q300-CDS UHF reader can be used in the three Ethernet networks Profinet Ethernet/IP or Modbus TCP immediately and without any intervention by the user. This is a major benefit for international manufacturers with controllers using different networks.

Even a separate power supply is unnecessary thanks to Power over Ethernet.
The Q300 RFID read/write head can be connected to controllers or other systems directly via Ethernet. No additional interface is required. This therefore minimizes the intervention required in existing applications. The flexibility of the Q300 thus increases investment security of the UHF application.
